Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is defined as the education of massage therapists following completion of format training.
CPD consists of any educational activity which helps to maintain, develop or increase knowledge, problem-solving, technical skills or professional performance standards, all with the goal that we can provide better health care.
CPD includes “formal” activities e.g. courses, conferences and workshops, as well as self-directed activities such as online research and directed reading.
Having run workshops for many years as well as being a board member for the LCSP, I feel that we have a duty of care to give to our customers and although not a legal requirement, feel it should be an essential part of your day to day work.
With our workshops we have a diverse range of attendees: massage therapists, sports and remedial masseurs, osteopaths, physiotherapists and chiropractors. We ensure that that all our attendees are able to keep up and participate in our courses.
As previously mentioned, although CPD hours are not a legal requirement for your practice, they are essential to validate your insurance. At present you require 20 hours a years to ensure your insurance is validated.
