SUMMARY:Advanced Training for Hendrickson Method Practitioners (Lower Quadrant) - 3 Days
DESCRIPTION:In today’s clinical environment\, many healthcare providers address the site of pain or discomfort\, instead of the cause. Medication is prescribed\, to manage symptoms\, or a series of rote exercises assigned. These options may alleviate the pain\, but do not address the source. Often the underlying issue remains. \nThe manual therapist\, in general\, addresses the entire structure of the body. Understanding predictable dysfunctional patterns of today’s society\, this will help guide us to a treatment\, or series of\, that will allow us to address the underlying issue of their discomfort. \nIn this three day course we will take a clinical look at the patterning of the lower body. We will address\, in greater detail\, the relationship between the lumbar spine\, hip\, knee\, ankle\, and foot. \nOn the first day\, we will be a focused lesson on the complex movements of the foot. We will discuss how it impacts the rest of the lower body during its connection with the earth in the normal\, and dysfunctional\, gait cycle. We’ll address the difference in the gait process between the quadruped and bipedal system. \nWe will address the knee on day two. Focus will be placed on the tibial and fibular functions that form a “bridge” between the ankle and the knee. We will be addressing dysfunctional patterns and forces that occur at the junction between the hip and ankle\, and adjustments that the knee joint and surrounding soft tissue assumes during these patterns. \nOn day three\, we will address the hip and knee. We will look at dysfunctional patterns that lead to improper gait\, therefore creating further need for compensation in the more distal structures. We will discuss the issues that arise from problems located more distally. \nThe day will consist of morning lecture and discussion. Then we will move to “hands on table work”\, where we will practice the Hendrickson Method™ technique in a more clinical setting. \n\nAssessment techniques\nPalpation skills\nSoft tissue technique to add the issues presented\n\nAt the end of each day\, we will have a discussion and share ideas of these issues. \nLearning objectives: \n\nHow to recognise muscle dysfunction and share ideas of these issues\nUnderstanding the role of the foot during ambulation\nUnderstanding of the muscle sequence during weight shift or gait\nAnalyse the difference in gait between the biped and quadruped and what this means to the manual therapist\nRecognise neural issues and potential loss of motor control and what does this imply\nHow to formulate a treatment plan\, that addresses the underlying reason for the issue\, not the symptoms\nHow to deepen the knowledge of HM technique in a clinical approach and how to choreograph an HM session for a specific situation presented\n\nWe encourage delegates to bring case studies and findings they’ve encountered within their practice\, to share and discuss. \n  \nLed By: Giles Gamble \nIncluded: Tea/Coffee\, Lunch and Workbook are provided \nDress Code: Loose\, comfortable\, smart \nDuration: 3 Days \nTimes: 9am – 5pm \nCPD Hours: 21 \n
